Pleasing Pinot Noir
Posted by Ilona Roberts on
It isn't easy to find a pleasing Pinot Noir for a tenner...but we have got one! A fragrant and delicate wine from the Auvergne, it is ready to rival a far more costly village Burgundy. With flavours of redcurrants, cherries and raspberries, its lighter style is perfect for enjoying on a summer's day.
The Auvergne is a largely unknown remote region in the centre of France, characterised by its famous dormant volcano, Puy de Dome. The vines grow at the same latitude as Bordeaux but at 350-570 metres of elevation. Together with a cooler climate and volcanic soils the Pinot Noir grape thrives and around half of the harvest is still picked by hand.
