Rioja Crianza, Manoso £8.99 This Rioja is all about the balance of cherry, redcurrant and brambles with the toasty richness of oak. Made from Tempranillo grapes and barrel aged for 12 months its oak finish is pleasing but not overwhelming. It’s been a wet and windy start to spring but it hasn’t dampened our enthusiasm for our two new wines from South Africa. The Klippenkop Chenin Blanc is light, crisp and clean with a hint of melon. Perfect to go with any springtime meal, especially chicken and salads. While the Sauvignon from Zevenwachts comes from a family owned and managed estate on the beautiful Stellenbosch Wine Route and is a more elegant wine with elderflower, green fig and gooseberry notes. From a climate of snow and sun, and one man’s love of wine, comes this rich Argentinian Malbec. Dark red in colour with violet hints it delivers strong aromas of plums and black cherries. The Gougenheim winery is one of the highest altitude vineyards in the Mendoza region.
