Passionate about Rioja

Rioja Crianza, Manoso £8.99 This Rioja is all about the balance of cherry, redcurrant and brambles with the toasty richness of oak. Made from Tempranillo grapes and barrel aged for 12 months its oak finish is pleasing but not overwhelming. Rioja is the smallest region in Spain but also one of the oldest wine regions in the world and home to Bodegas Ruiz de Vinaspre which was founded in 1910 by the grandfather of the current owner. “A passion for our land and our wines” Bodegas Ruiz de Vinaspre
South African sunshine

It’s been a wet and windy start to spring but it hasn’t dampened our enthusiasm for our two new wines from South Africa. The Klippenkop Chenin Blanc is light, crisp and clean with a hint of melon. Perfect to go with any springtime meal, especially chicken and salads. While the Sauvignon from Zevenwachts comes from a family owned and managed estate on the beautiful Stellenbosch Wine Route and is a more elegant wine with elderflower, green fig and gooseberry notes. It pairs beautifully with seafood. Available from next week!
High altitude wine

From a climate of snow and sun, and one man’s love of wine, comes this rich Argentinian Malbec. Dark red in colour with violet hints it delivers strong aromas of plums and black cherries. The Gougenheim winery is one of the highest altitude vineyards in the Mendoza region. In a desert climate region, they use melt water from the Andes mountains to irrigate the vines growing on unique alluvial soils. “I wanted a change in my quality of life…to produce something which I am proud of.” Patricio Gougenheim
Serious wine...

Blown away by the storms? You’ll definitely be blown away by this wine! From the Garreau vineyards that stretch over the magnificent slopes of Bordeaux, where the natural drainage and aspect are ideal for the vines. With 2015 being a great vintage, you are getting some serious wine in this bottle. Nicely balanced with smooth red fruit flavours, it’s just the job with food. So, cook up a hearty roast dinner, pop the cork and snuggle up for the weekend.
